Volt Norge operates across two languages every day. Our internal work, collaboration with Volt Europa, and coordination with Volt Nordics across Denmark, Sweden, and Finland all happen in English — but when we speak to Norway, we need to sound like we belong here. AI translation gets us part of the way, but for anything that goes in front of a Norwegian audience, we need a real human voice behind it.
This is a flexible, low-commitment role that fits around your schedule. You'd translate on an as-needed basis — sometimes a short social media caption, sometimes a full policy document or website page — helping ensure that Volt Norge's message lands naturally in Norwegian.
About Volt Norge & Volt Europa
Volt Norge is the Norwegian chapter of Volt Europa — Europe's first truly pan-European political party, with over 42,000 members and parliamentary representation across three countries. We are a registered NGO in Norway, working toward becoming a political party. Learn more at voltnorway.org.
What You'll Be Doing
Translate documents, website texts, and communications from English to Norwegian for external use
Review and refine AI-assisted translations for tone, accuracy, and natural flow
Occasionally translate short texts in the other direction (Norwegian to English) when needed
Work flexibly with the communications and policy teams depending on current needs
What We're Looking For
Native or near-native Bokmål Norwegian, with strong English proficiency. Nynorsk is not required but would be a welcome bonus as we grow our reach across Norway.
Comfortable translating both short-form content (social posts, captions, announcements) and longer texts (policy documents, website pages, press material)
Attention to detail and sensitivity to tone — political language requires precision
Ability to work independently and deliver on agreed timelines
A background in languages, journalism, political science, or communications is a bonus — but not required
Flexible availability; translation needs vary week to week
What You'll Gain
Political Translation – Experience translating real political content for a public audience, a niche and valuable skill
Cross-Cultural Communication – Understanding how to carry meaning and tone across languages in a political context
Insight – As a translator, you'll have visibility across Volt Norge's work that few other volunteers get
Network – Connection to a pan-European political movement operating across 30+ countries and multiple languages
Fully remote and async. You translate when work comes in — no fixed weekly hours.
